Yahoo Alerts is a free, personalized notification service that allows you to instantly receive feeds of information that interest you. You can stay up to date with everything you consider to be important via email, instant message, pager, or cell phone. To help you better understand this service, here are five frequently asked questions about Yahoo Alerts:

1. What types of alerts are there?

The list of alerts that you can receive from Yahoo is endless. There are Avatars alerts to get updates on clothes and backgrounds; breaking news alerts to stay aware of what is going on in the world; health news stories; sports alerts; and stock alerts. Anything that you have an interest in you can receive alerts for.

2. How do you create an alert?

There are two simple ways you can create an alert. First you can sign in and select the type of alert you want under the “Create an Alert” tab.  You can also select the alert you want to create from the pull-down menu on the right side of the page. From there, click “Go” and follow the instructions. The other way to create an alert is to find alerts within popular Yahoo sites like Yahoo News and Yahoo Finance. You can then click the alert link and follow the instructions.

3. How do you turn an alert off?

There are three ways for you to turn an alert off. You can either suspend an alert, suspend all of your alerts, or you can delete the alert entirely. It all depends on what you are looking to do with your alerts. Just know that you can manage your alerts through the “My Alerts” tab. 

4. What are the delivery options?

There are several delivery options you can choose from including via email, Yahoo messenger, or your mobile device. You can choose which method is best for you when you create an alert. For some alerts you will also be able to choose the frequency with which you want to receive the alert or even the time of day you prefer to receive it at.

5. How do you change an email address on file?

As you register and create an alert you are going to submit an email address to have on file. If you change your email address or want a different address on file, you can change it fairly easily. All you have to do is go to the “My Account” page and you can quickly make the appropriate changes.
